    please help!

i recently shot a short piece on a sony 3 chip camera…its on mini-dv, watching it on a tv from the camera, it looks smashing.

the video itself is a still shot of a person, and slowly lights around them change from green to red.

when i try to capture it, it immediately seems very pixelated, getting much much worse as the image becomes red.

ive checked presets and everything, and as far asi know i have it set right (DV NTSC 48hz), etc.

i have trouble with final cut, so if its something easy please tell me! is there some sort of uncompressed setting i need to capture with? when i watch the captured files in Quicktime at their original size, the pixelation is even worse.

    help!

You must only judge quality on an external video monitor and not on the computer monitor.

thats good to know! i will do that

however, it is VERY pixelated more than just a little janky. there are jagged lines where there should be smooth ones. there are visible pixel blocks surrounding the red lights (which are visible in frame).

    What are your capture settings?

Easy Set-up: DV NTSC (or DV PAL, if that’s where you are)?

Are you in “Off-line JPEG” mode?

I’ve just come across the same problem.

Shot on DVX 102a – digitized in FCP 4.5, PAL DV settings. footage is a nightclub and FCP seems to be having problems with extreme chroma – areas where there is heavy red or blue go pixelated. NB this is a localised effect – pixelation only occurs around the most extreme chroma areas… Can’t find a fix – have played with settings… Can’t figure it out!

    Help!?
