Pixelated/ Blotchy fades
Hi guys
First time poster here, this site is a godsend for newbies to Sony Vegas such as me… thanks! I’d be really grateful if someone could help me with a YouTube related issue. I have a Canon 7d and have been using Sony Vegas 9 to cut and render videos – no problems there. I’ve exported them in various different formats (mp4, mpeg 2 etc) – fine.
The problem is – when I upload the videos to Youtube, if I fade up from black or do a crossfade it comes out blotchy and pixelated – especially at 360 p but still noticeable at 720 and 1080p. A second or two after the fade the picture quality goes back to being good, without a lot of blocks and pixels visible. Is this problem solely related to Youtube compression?
When I upload to Vimeo it isn’t a problem at all, and I’m watching in the almost the same quality as on Vegas 9 – a smooth fade. I downloaded and checked the bitrate of your 1080 youtube clip and it is 4787kbps, then downloaded one of mine and it’s 5992kbps. I don’t know why yours is lower, maybe the format we uplaoded makes the difference. I uplaoded a 28mbs .mts file. Maybe try a higher bitrate file and see if there’s a difference. Also a fade in or out will show low bitrate artifacts like your getting more than one without any fades, so if you want youtube to be your player, maybe don’t use fades, if a higher quality upload doesn’t get you your desired results.
