    Hi again,

Have an issue here. I’ve created a video presentation, here are the specs.
720×576 pal standard, using pal dv pixel ratio 1.0926. all looks fine, and by looks fine i mean, my graphics/test all fits on the preview screen without any problems at all. When i render as an mpg to be made into a dvd with dvd architect, the mpeg plays fine on the monitor, again, everything fitting on the screen as i intended. However, after making the dvd in architect, and playing it on my tv, I’m losing space on the sides and on top and bottom, and things are getting cut off…i thought i had set it up correctly, but have i put a foot wrong somewhere? please say there is an easy fix, as I’m not looking fwd to redoing graphic/text positioning.

    thanks

    Simon

What you forgot to take into account was something called overscan.

In a nutshell, a TV set will never show you what you see on a computer screen. Modern TVs have gotten better at this but it’s not uncommon for older TVs to overscan as much as 20% 🙁

For this reason, Vegas gives you the option to have safe areas displayed in your preview window.
It’s the thing that looks like #.
Enable it and look at your graphics & titles again.
Anything that falls outside of the inner dashed lines may not show up on a TV set so make sure any graphics & titles stay inside of the inner lines.

The text creation tool in Vegas has markings in the placement tab. Make sure any titles stay within this box.

The defaults are 10% for Safe Action Area and 20% for Safe Title Area.
BTW, DVD Architect has an option to display these markings as well.

The easy fix (and not one I’d recommend) is to use Track Motion to zoom the entire project out until your titles & graphics fit.
The drawback to doing this is a black border around your entire project.

To do it properly, you’re going to have to go back and redo all your graphics & text to fit properly.

Thanks Mike. That makes sense. Apart from redoing the graphics (which there are a lot of unfortunately)…Obviously i could resize them in photoshop, would it be an option to use the pan/crop as an easier alternative to get the same result?

    cheers

If all the graphics are on separate tracks from the video, just use Track Motion to adjust the size/position of the graphics.

I agree against using Track Motion on the entire video but using it only on the graphics/titles should be just fine.

Thanks for the tip Edward, will have a play around. last problem i have now, is that the video sections were shot in wide screen, and i have placed text over the top and bottom black bars in some sections, i can’t see any way i can fix that without some heavy work on the the actual video sections, will see what i can do.

Thanks a lot guys, was lookin like an all nighter, i just may get a decent nights sleep now 🙂
