  • pixel problem using foundry’s keylight plugin

hello, i’m trying to key out some footage shot on green screen. it was shot using a dvx at 29.97. i had practiced with the foundry’s keylight plugin before hand to get a handle on it, i’m now having a severe problem with my keying however. The green goes away pretty seamlessly with mild tweaks of the plugin (good lighting), but when i set the keylight effect, immediately, a series of different colored pixels appear all over the screen, that i can’t get rid of. i’m using quicktimes that have been exported from final cut. so i’m wondering if it has something to do with this extra conversion between the two programs?
i’ve tried exporting it as an NLE quicktime from final cut, but whenver i use the keylight plugin these pixels remain.

they don’t appear when i use one of after effects basic keyers but the problem is that they don’t do as a good a job as the foundry’s. so, i’m wondering if anyone has any experience with this plugin and could tell me why it is presenting these pixels when other keyers do not? any help would be greatly appreciated as i’m approaching my first green-screen-in-post meltdown.

    thanks for any input,

    ignacio

Is this happening all over the screen or just in the keyed areas?

Also, are you only seeing the pixels when you scrub the time line? If this is the case try turning off OpenGL preview (switch to adaptive resolution).

Could you post a screen cap?

I had a similar problem with Keylight…although my problem was that it literally cut the layer in half for some frames. It would only happen intermittently and when it did, it was devistating. I even had a drop shadow on the layer, and the drop shadow shadowed the part that was cut off.

My video was exported from Avid Xpress Pro – both as reference files and as regular exported quicktimes.

Keylight, when unregistered (eg using a demo version), applies an array of colored pixels over your whole image. If you register the plugin it will remove those colored pixels and all will be well 🙂
