Hello. I just caught Carl’s Droste effect tutorial this week and am attempting to utilizing the plugin for an animation. I have the PB toolkit installed, the droste AE plugin installed for CS4, but when I apply it to a layer, it is incredibly slow (20+ seconds per 2000×2000 frame). From the appearance of the tutorial, and other people’s comments, it seems like Pixel Bender plugins should run faster. Here are my comp (PC) details:

CPU: 2.67 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT
    RAM: 2 GB
    OS: XP

I realize my system is not exceptional, but I just wanted to see if anyone could help me pinpoint anything I might be missing. Thanks much!

Nathan: I recorded the tutorial while the composition was previewing at 1/4 resolution, so that might be part of the problem. I almost always work at low resolution and shift+ram preview (skip every other frame) while I’m setting things up and then only do a full res render at the end. Obviously do what you need to do in your specific situation but 20 seconds per frame sounds really slow. Have you played wint turning open gl on and off?

Eduardo: Install the pixel bender toolkit and then drag the droste.pbk file into AE’s plugin folder. That should be it.
