    Hi guys,

I am setting up a project for broadcast in Ukraine and am confused about the pixel aspect ratio options in Premiere for PAL. The far more knowledgeable Harm Millard had a post some time back on this subject but it went unanswered. I know the most common response to posts like these are “we need more information” so I’m going to give you everything I can.

    Client delivery specs:
    Format: MOV
    Codec: Uncompressed
    Frame Size: 1920 x 1080
    Frame Rate: 25,00fps
    Progressive
Color Space: 8 bit RGB, 8 bit YUV
Gamma Level for Color Space: 1.8-2.2
    Video System:
    a) PAL – white Ymax = 700+/-20mV
    b) black Ymax = 49mV
    c) pixel aspect ratio – fjr SD Pal CCIR-601 for HD square

I have no idea what fjr means. Premiere offers the PAL pixel aspect ratio for 16:9 of 1.4587, for SD it’s 1.0940. Harm’s post mentions that neither of these options is actually compliant with CCIR-601 (Rec 601).

I’m left with a few questions. Which of Premiere’s options would be correct for this spec? If neither, is there a way to manually input a new PAR in premiere?

    Thank you!

Werther it’s PAL or NTSC broadcast the Pixel aspect ratio for HD in a 1920×1080 file is 1.0 (square).
The only thing that is different in a PAL country from a NTSC country is the framerate which is 25 fps.

I’m new to PAL, but I’m pretty sure PAL does have a different pixel aspect ratio, given that both premiere’s presets for PAL are not 1 and the CCIR 601 specs indicate the same.

If you read your own specs again:
One is for SD the other for HD so not much to choose from if your are delivering in HD.
