  • Pixel Aspect Ratio setting for AVID to DVD?

What quicktime settings do I use when exporting a piece from AVID to burn in DVD Studio Pro? Do I leave the settings to 720×486 (no crop/pad) and native aspect ratio? Or do I crop to 720×480 and export the native aspect ratio? Or do I drop to 720×480 and set to 4:3 aspect ratio?

    really great question.

I can’t answer it but as I read this I’m trying yet another derivation of settings in QT export to try to get my aspect ratio to work correctly.

I’m using Avid Pro 5.5 and RoxioEasyMedia Creator 9 (MyDVD) – I am successfully doing QT ref exports which I can make DVDs from, but struggle to get the DVD to have the correct AFD detail (Active Format Descriptor) as in, you can set the menu to be 16:9 but the pictures jump back to 4:3 on the TV, despite the QT ref file being exported as 16:9. Not sure if this is an Avid or Roxio prob!!

hope someone else has more luck!!

The 16:9 flag for the DVD player is set in the encoder when creating the MPEG2 file. It may not suffice to just set the authoring interface to 16:9 if the encoder does not pick it up as part of the encoding process. The QT ref only sets the playback display to be 16:9 but there is no flag for an encoder to use.

Check your encoder settings for 16:9.

It doesn’t seem to have made a difference. I think either way, it was resolved via Compressor.
