i have footage of a little girl spinning. I want to put her name beside her and have the text rotate and spin with her torso. What is the best way to do this? I can provide footage if necessary. I have not edited it yet but i can give a example. I assume i set up some sort of null, but not sure how I track the spinning.

This sounds a little dubious … what’s your purpose here?

I may not be the best person for the job here, but since there’s a lack of other responses right now, I’ll say that I think you’ll have a difficult time with something like without a dedicated camera tracking program. AE can track position and 2D rotation, but if she’s spinning around, you’ll have a hard time tracking the rotation of her torso/arms unless the camera’s above her.

I’ve always wanted a copy of Boujou, which appears to be a nice little camera tracker, but the price makes me chuckle and go back to eating my cold porridge.

All that to say good luck, and please post back if you find a good way to do this inside AE; I’d definitely like to know about it.

…there’s always the chance that I might have the wrong idea of what you’re going for here, though

you’ll have to separate the girl from the background then use something like ccsphere on the text layer and use one copy for the front and one copy for the back. The hardest part will be separating the girl

the easiest way is to use CC sphere to create the text moving around in a sphere.

Once you’ve done this, create two layers —> one with CC sphere set to ‘render front’ and the other set to ‘render back’

Place your girl in between these two layers. If you haven’t shot this on green/blue screen – you’ll need to rotoscope the girl out.
