First off. Anyone else here having this problem? example at: <https://www.rednail.com.au/photos/10bitfault.jpg>
(yes I know there is compression, it’s just the jpeg)
I have found the only solution to the problem is to change the render setting for the sequence to either 8 bit uncompressed or RGB.
Which do you think is the better option? Considering that this is a program for broadcast with a major company.

Your thoughts appreciated. Oh and apparently Apple has been told about this.

Seems to me that if you see some strangeness in a 10 bit Decklink codec, it’s not apple’s problem (they don’t write the codec code, Decklink does… I certainly don’t see anything of the sort with the 10 bit codec with my Kona 2… (FCP 5.0.2, QT 7.0.2, and latest drivers for Kona 2 card here). But that said, I think if the 8 bit setting you are trying looks OK, I’d use that… Might compare the two however, and see if there’s much difference? If you don’t see a problem, you don’t have one…

I’m not sure thgis is the same deal but last night i made a simple page of text in FCP5 and put it over a nested clip. Before render it is fine but after there is a fluro green blocking around a little logo in the corner. I am using a Decklink HD with 10bit compression. After speaking with Blackmagic they couldn’t either resolve or replicate the problem. Sounds like a definate issue…

It is an issue with your system apparently. This isn’t being reported all over the place (you should check the Decklink forum here too about that) … so the only fix I know of is to create an enviornment that is totally clean. i.e. build a startup disk with known compatible software and see if this doesn’t fix you up. Maybe just reinstalling drivers for the Decklink would do it, dunno…

I started in the decklink forum and have found several people with the same problem. I’m beginning to suspect that it might be because the files are on top of an animated graphic saved with the animation codec. It’s not just text but ANY effects placed over the animation. They either disappear or get the green and pink splodges. I don’t think it is the Decklink as they just use the Apple Uncompressed codecs as do AJA.This system is as clean as a whistle as it is practically brand new. Dual 2.7, 4.5 gig of ram tonnes of fast HD space. Working flawlessly until now. This project started life as a JPEG 50 offline and saw no problems with any video so it’s definitely a 10 Bit rendering issue.

SO. Could someone techincally minded tell me the pros and cons of rendering in RGB over 8 Bit? I do notice that I seem to get more real time fx with RGB?!?
