Pictures aren’t pictures anymore?
Last night I’m going through some old pictures on a CD disk to see what they are. Also organizing pictures on my HD. Double click opens them in Preview, just like they are supposed to. Also the “Icon Preview” works fine for seeing the thumbnails. Hey! Who needs iPhoto?
This morning I get up to continue the work and hey! Double click on a picture (Tiff or Jpeg) and it opens in the Color Sync Utility. I can’t even drag to images to the Preview app in the Dock. With “get Info” I try to change the “Open With…” setting and Preview is greyed out. As an extra added bonus, no more icon preview. Pictures on the Hard Drive have the same problem as pictures on CD-Rom.
Help me get back to the good old days of 8 hours ago. There must be some global setting I screwed up somewhere, but what and where is it?

Try repairing the permissions on your startup drive using Disk Utility.

When in doubt: reboot and then ask questions.

Yes Yes, I checked the disks, I rebuilt permissions, I re-booted, all before the first post, thats SOP for any problems. I’ve tried a bunch of things like changing which programs should open pictures ( like using photoshop, etc…). I also went into the preferences on Preview, and I tried carefully changing things, one at a time.
It seems like it should be something simple, and I’, just missing it.

I found this solution and it worked, but I doubt you would ever “Guess” at this.
If your files won’t open with the right program then you can try the following solution:
delete the files
/Users/_your_name_/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-014501.csstore
/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
(the numbers may vary), and then restart your computer!Thanks to Vincent for this
