Picture shifting on FCP composites
I am noticing that when I do a picture in picture that there is always a shift in the inner picture when a transition is applied.
Here’s what I’m doing:
I have an animated BG on V1, on V2 there is resized video of talking heads in which I put a wipe between each individual, On V3 there is an animated alpha lower 3rd that comes in and goes out during the talking head. When ever the wipe occurs, or when the LT comes in and out, the video on V2 shifts a little and seems to almost increase in size a hair. I’ve tried nesting the V2 layer with transitions and resizing only the nest but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. This issue seem to arrise anytime a picture in picture occurs where there are transitions (dissolve, wipe, whatever). I’m working in DV-NTSC, and as far as I can tell all of my animations and lower thirds are properly sized and field rendered. Any input would be greatly appreicated…this is been a flaw that has been really bothering me. If any more information is needed just let me know.Thanks.

Is the PIP on an even scan line? Check the Motion Tab.

No luck. I have the center point set at x=0, and y=55 . I changed the y to 54 and 52 and I still have the same result. It does look like a field shift, but the picture seems to enlarge just a hair.

Are you checking this on an NTSC monitor?
What do you mean precisely by “field rendered”? Should be lower field first with DV-NTSC.
Were these animations imported from another program? How were they rendered precisely?Kevin Monahan

You can see the shift on both the computer monitor and NTSC monitor. The animations are done in AE, rendered at best settings lower field first as quicktime moveis with the DV-NTSC codec. I far as I know I’m doing everything correct technically. I’ve even tried rendering no field and the problem still occurs. If I get a chance I’ll try to put up a still frame from the frame before the 1st transition and the frame when the transition begins…maybe it will better illustrate. I’ll post later with a link.
