  • Picture Export from FCP to PS without color change ?

Posted by Robsteel on June 6, 2005 at 7:54 pm

    Hi,

I’m having problems exporting a pic out of a fcp clip. I’m using the export list and no matter what format of still picture I choose the exported pic has different colors, so even if I dont open it in PS it will not match my original clip. I render in YUV and DV-PAL, I think switching to RGB solves my problem bur then all my color-correction is useless (whole video is shot before crisp white background) rgb makes it look pink 🙁 is there a better way to export ? color management in PS is off.

    Thanx

Well, THAT should not be happening.
You may have some odd issues going on with your settings or your monitoring set-up.

I frequently import/export back and forth between FCP and Photoshop with no coloration issues at all.

Step 1: File> Export> Using QuickTime Conversion… “Save” window appears
    Step 2: Format> Still Image
Step 3: Options… > Format: (choose PNG, PICT, TIFF or Photoshop) > OK
Step 4: Name your image, Set location (disk, folder, desktop) for your new still. > Save

Avoid PNG, it will introduce a gamma shift when you’ll import back to FCP (or quicktime). Tiff is alright, PSD too.

Actualy, if you export from FCP, retouch in PS, and then reimport in FCP it’s fine. But when you export to PNG from another app, FCP will screw it on import.

By the way, if anyone has an explanation on this…
