  • Picture distortion in DVD Architect 4.5

I’m building a DVD with DVD Architect Pro, and I keep getting distortion in the video like the line sync on my TV is messed up. When I put a still image in (say, in place of a menu) there’s no problems, but when video plays the line sync distortion shows up.

If I watch the mpeg or the wmv on my computer it looks fine. It only gets messed up when I put it on DVD and watch it on TV.

Do you know what is causing this? It’s not my screen, I can switch to cable television and the picture is fine.

    Thanks a lot.

What happens if you play the DVD in your computer?

Only thing I can think of that would cause something like that is maybe if you’re playing a PAL DVD on an NTSC system or vice versa.

Actually it looks perfect when I play it on my computer.

I checked the project properties and the region was set on “all” and the video format is NTSC. And the dvd players I’ve tried are both region 1.

I’m going to try setting it to only play only on region 1 instead of all and see if that helps.

    Thanks,

Kelly, home-made DVDs are region-free so that’s not your problem.
It sounds like a field order problem to me.
Have you cropped any video clips anywhere on the timeline?
If you’re off by one video line, this can reverse your field order which can cause issues like you’re experiencing.

I haven’t cropped/resized the video within Architect. Do you know of anything else that might screw up the field order?

    Thanks

This is something you would’ve done in Vegas, not Architect.

I’ve added a lot of motion using key frames and the pan/crop tool. But if that distorted the picture, wouldn’t anyone who added motion graphics to their work face a problem when making a DVD?

Thanks for your help on this, I appreciate it.

It’s the process of cropping images (to cut something off, either top or bottom) that might mess up the field order.
This is the main reason why previewing to a CRT is still a good idea as it’s the only way to ensure that you don’t have a field order issue.

Figured it out. I had to create a new project with progressively scanned fields re-render my project as a quicktime file.

    Thanks,

    Kelly
