We are looking at a major archive job for the local philharmonic. It would be capturing videos from many decades back and turning it into a file type that would be editable and robust enough to withstand that, but stay on large servers forever. I’m looking for advice on what format to chose for the longest life and most robust service for the future. Not forever, but until we have to trasnfer it to something else. Would appreciate your advice on what format to capture and output in. It is almost all standard definition.

I’m a couple weeks late to the party, but I think DVCPro50 is a very reasonable suggestion. Be aware that you may need to install a third-party codec to read the files.

I’m in the same boat! Did you find a reasonable solution?
