I would like to have an opinion about these three books on Avid and/or Xpress:

    1) Avid Xpress Pro for Windows and Macintosh (Visual QuickPro Guide)
    by James Monohan

    2) Avid Editing, Third Edition : A Guide for Beginning and Intermediate Users
    by Sam Kauffmann

    3) The Avid Handbook : Intermediate Techniques, Strategies, and Survival Information for Avid Editing Systems
    by Steve Bayes

    Do they supersede each other?

Do they all or some of them complement each other for a certain learning order?

Is there any other book which might be better tool to learn how to do Avid things, particularly Xpress?

A friend of mine suggested printing the whole Avid Xpress Pro Help, but I am not too sure is a good way to learn using the program.

The Avid Handbook by Steve Bayes is a bit dry but VERY good.
I highly recommend “Avid Xpress Pro and Dv on the Spot” by Steve Hullfish.
And get the free user guide:

    Thanks for both tips.

The Avid guide you mentioned is the Help file I was talking about, if I am not wrong.

Unfortunately I cannot buy any book that includes a CD or DVD from where I live (Brazil), because our Customs will charge me more than what I paid for the book as import tax. Books only pay nothing.

These bureaucrats seem not to understand that education now relies on interrelation with visual tools to get better results, so a CD/DVD that comes with a book should not be confused with a music or film.

Its not really a problem, but a complaint.

There are several editing books that come with an enclosed CD/DVD.
