  • Photoshop to After Effects question…

I have a Photoshop file with many layers that I have imported into After Effects for animating. I imported the Photoshop file as a compostion, so After Effects brought in all the seperate layers, and created a new composition with them, exactly what I wanted.

The client has asked for some additional layers in Photoshop which I have created. However, I don’t have Dynamic Link, and would like to know if there is some way I can “reload” the Photoshop project so that After Effects brings in all the original layers, plus the new ones, while still preserving the animation I have done thus far. Selecting File/Reload Footage seems to get After Effects to check the original layers, but does not bring in the new ones. Is there a straight forward way to do this? Thanks.

You could import the new Photoshop file (separately from the original) and copy the added layers into the original Photoshop comp. If you drag them to the timeline instead of the stage, they should maintain their proper positions.

When you import a Photoshop file, AE creates a folder to hold all of the layers. You will probably want to move the added “layers” from this folder to the original Doc’s folder, then delete the folder from the revised PS import, just to keep things clean.
