Photoshop Layer effects in AFX
Posted by Justin Porter on July 20, 2006 at 4:25 pmIs there any way to apply the same layer effects/styles that you can use in Photoshop to layers in After Effects?

July 20, 2006 at 6:28 pmI don’t think so, but you can apply them in Photoshop and then import into After Effects.
But I think this is not exactly what you want, right? -

July 20, 2006 at 6:41 pmNo, PS layer styles are not available in AE. However, if you import a PSD document which has them applied, some will be active on the layer in AE. From there you can still copy&paste them, even if they don’t show up in the normal effects menu. It’s very limited though.

July 20, 2006 at 7:51 pmI have this same issue, theres probably easier ways around it, but what I do is just duplicate my layers that have the effects, I then merge the two layers which makes the effect unchangable, then I import it into AE. I save it with the orignal effects of course, but I wish i knew of a better way.

July 20, 2006 at 7:55 pmIf your effect from Photoshop does not appear on After effects, you can on Photoshop create a new empty layer and merge it to the layer with the effect, by doing this, After will recognize all effects that Photoshop creates.
Very easy. no limitations.

July 21, 2006 at 2:16 pmThere’s another way you can go about this…if you have a Photoshop document that has effects that aren’t showing up in AE you don’t have to merge the layers. If you right click on your effect in your Photoshop file and select create layer, it will take the effects you’ve applied to the layer and make them a seperate layer in Photoshop. When you import your Photoshop file into AE, select import as comp and all your layers will show up allowing you to manipulate your effects to your liking. Granted it isn’t exactly like having Photoshop effects in AE, but you can manipulate the effects without chaning the base layer they are affecting.
