  • Photoshop Layer effect (stroke) in After Effects CS3

    Hello,

I have a little confusion about a one of the layers of photoshop file, that I have imported into my AE CS3 project.

In photoshop it had a stroke effect.

I imported the PSD as a composition with the ability to edit.

The layer has a stroke around it (as it should be), but there is nothing in the effects control panel.

I would assume that it has been rasterized, but when I apply an effect to this layer, the strke does not get affected, only the inner part of it (i tried Fill, Tint, Curves…).

As I understand the stroke is applied the layer post effects in the effects control, because I added Alpha Levels effect and played with it and the stroke started to move as I changed the values.

    So how/where should I switch it on/off?

The woraround that I used, was pre-composing the layer, but still I’m curious where is it hidden?

    Thank you.

ps layer effects like stoke are imported as layer styles in ae. you can find the layer styles (like stroke) by twirling down the layer properties in the timeline. twirl the layer styles down to reveal the styles that have been applied to that layer. you can manipulate them from there.

if you want to add layer styles to a layer, select the layer, then choose layer>layer styles and select the style to add.

if you needed to have effects effect the layer style, i beleive you need to precomp the layer, then add the effect to the precomp. you could duplicate the lyaer, then use the duplicate as a trackmatte for and adjustment layer with the effect on it, but that seems like more work, and has more limitations.
