  • Photoshop CS2 slow to open and save files

Posted by Michael Maller on June 9, 2006 at 6:00 pm

It is suddenly taking a very long time to open or save files in CS2. The file size does not matter.
Even extremely small files will exhibit this behavior. In Photoshop 7 I do not have this problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Purge Photoshops caches…

You can also try reseting Photoshop…

I have tried purging the cahes but to no avail.
What do you mean by resetting Photoshop? Do you mean reinstall?
    Thanks for your reply

Somehow CS2 has also felt “bloated” to me. Slower opening the app, slower opening files etc. Not enough new stuff to entice me to wait so I’m back to CS for now.

Reduce your history level in preferences I believe its called from 6 to 4 this will speed up opening files, also add an external scratch disc if you can… at least try this before you go back to CS since CS2 is so much better….

As to how to reset photoshop if your on a mac I believe you hold command and option while you launch the app

check on google… I could be wrong.. on the key command

    Alt+Ctrl+shift to reset on windows
    Cmd+Alt+shift to reset on mac

and its cache level not history level…

    sorry about that
