Hi from 12 degrees C about to rain again York UK,

Ive got my self in a right mess with designing a 10 x 8 inch photo collage with photoshop CC 🙁 For the last three hrs ive been trying to get a collection of images to look tidy with even spacing between but I just cant do it. Ive been doing it all manually but my maths is poor and I’m going round in circles.

Is there an easier way to create a photo collage when you want all images to be evenly spaced?

Here is a link to my naff work so far:

    Any help welcome 🙂

It’s not a perfect solution, but you could try this:

    https://www.filterforge.com/filters/12630.html

(If you don’t have Filter Forge, there’s a 30-day trial.)

It works only on square input and output, but what you could do is use the filter for finding a pleasing layout for the number of images that you have and the place your images manually once you’ve found a suitable layout. There are 30 000 automatic variations (Variation slider under Settings).

Because the filter works on square output, you’ll have to make a 10″ x 10″ (3000×3000 pixels) image and then scale the result to 80% horizontally to get a 8″ x 10″ image.

(If you want to use your own images directly, you will have to crop them square and then scale them to 80% vertically first to compensate for having to scale the output. And realize that the spacing will end up 80% thinner horizontally in the end.)

You will have no control over individual images, but at least testing for layout variations will be very fast.

You could even just put a flat grey color in all the image placeholders.

    Example:

0.35 seconds at 600×600 pixels preview, 6.5 seconds at 3000×3000 pixels.
