    Hi;
    MacOSaiX is great for making the mosaic; though (depending on size of animation, number of pictures, etc) sometimes you have to go in by hand (in Photoshop) to add or replace duplicates. I don’t think there is a Mosaic program which will make each tile on it’s own layer.

    You don’t need each tile on it’s own layer to animate it, though. You can animate the finished Mosaic in After Effects using card Dance. The trick is controlling it… There is a tutorial here: https://www.ayatoweb.com/ae_tips_e/ae50_e.html

    This can provide you with a starting point. Then, be prepared to tweak for the forseeable future.

    Hope this helps…

    Matthew,

    Thanks for the response. That tutorial with the card dance is great and gets us most of the way toward the look we’re going for. It would be nice to be able to animate the layers individually. Our work around is to use this effect, then add a half dozen or so additional images and tweak to taste.

    Yep, that’s the ticket.
