Photo Montage Animation
Posted by Samuel Boulton on April 22, 2011 at 3:56 pmHello Experts,
I’m creating a photo montage using FCP-6. I have created a certain image animation within the image “Motion” Parameters tab. From the start of the image, the image scale increases by 10% over the image duration. Also the rotation motion is adjusted to rotate by 8 degrees and the center motion is adjusted to move from right to left by a certain percentage.
Is it possible to save the “Basic Motion” parameters I created for this particular image and apply it to other images in my montage?
Thank you,
Sam Boulton

April 22, 2011 at 4:12 pmYes, its essentially a Copy/Paste operation.
Right-click and “Copy” the clip that has your master motion tab settings.
Right click on the clip that you want to transfer these settings to… and select “Paste Attributes”. You will get a submenu from which you can select the appropriate items, including Basic Motion and a few other things.jPo
You mean “Old Ben”? Ben Kenobi?

April 22, 2011 at 4:18 pmOf course!!! Like Joseph said, use the traditional copy function, but instead of pasting the clip, choose paste attributes, and check “basic motion.”
Experiment a bit and see how powerful this tool can be. If you’re really good, maybe you’ll figure out how to copy the keyframes from a clip that’s one length and get them to work over the length of the new clip. That you’ll have to figure out for yourself however… Report back when you have that one down…

April 22, 2011 at 4:47 pmThank you Joseph and David for your quick reply, but most important, your expertise. Your advise worked as slick as snot.
David/Teacher, I’ll complete my assignment/challenge and report back to you regarding copying the keyframes from a clip that’s one length and get them to work over the length of the new clip.
Stay tune teacher!

April 22, 2011 at 6:41 pmThe problem there is a complex one. Because if a clip is short, then the 10% gain is a very fast move. And if you apply those parameters to a long clip, then the 10% gain is a very slow move.
Plus, FCP seems to sometimes decide to paste the keyframes at seemingly random places. Usually in a part of the clip that isn’t visible. They really need to completely gut the keyframing and start from scratch.
Oh wait…

April 23, 2011 at 12:26 pmYou can also save the entire parameters as a favorite motion. It works the same way as copy/paste.
