I’ve captured some footage using the Photo-JPEG codec. If I put it into a sequence whose settings are DV NTSC, I get the orange bar above the video and the image is smaller than full size on both the Canvas and my monitor. This is what I expected, though not what I want. I created a new sequence whose settings are Photo-JPEG, and there’s no need to render the video in the sequence, but my monitor won’t follow the playhead in real-time. Essentially the monitor catches about one frame per every few seconds. When I stop the playhead the monitor catches up fine, but that doesn’t help me very much.

I have a feeling I’m stuck. I can’t really get around using the Photo-JPEG codec for my footage (80 tapes ahoy). I guess I’m just hoping that there’s some checkbox or switch or something that I haven’t flipped that can make this work.

    I’m uing a G5 with a Sony DSR11, and I got a Sony 14″ monitor plugged into it.

Photo-JPEG is not for viewing on an external monitor.

It is only for viewing on the computer screen.
It was initially designed you to allow you to edit a rough-cut on a Powerbook while away from a desktop Mac.

A Blackmagic card, such as Extreme, will allow you to capture, monitor, and output DV using the photo-JPEG codec.
