  • Perspective Matching To A Still Photo

I’ve searched the forums, but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for.

I am using AE 6.5 Standard.

I have a still photo of a Rolodex card file and I want to use AE to make the Rolodex cards appear to “flip”. I have designed a plain white Rolodex “card” in Illustrator, and I am trying to match the perspective of the card to that of the cards in the still photo, but I can’t seem to get it right. I’ve tried adjusting the X, Y, and Z rotation and orientation attributes and even parented it to an adjustment layer to give me two independent axes on which to make adjustments and I still can’t seem to get it to match up.

I must be doing something wrong, because I didn’t imagine it would be this hard. Since I don’t have Pro or one of the CS versions, I don’t have the Corner Pinning tool, which would apparently make this job a snap.

Is there an easier way, or do I need to upgrade?

If you really are broke, you will need to learn expressions
for coding your own corner pin. or just buy a cheap plugin instead of professional.

upgrade to CS3 is the way to go.

I don’t know if corner pin is exactly what you need or not, but it seems like that’s one way to go. Either way, the upgraded app is DEFINITELY worth it. Especially if you upgrade to Production Premium to get all the updated apps. With licenses to Illustrator and AE already, you should be eligible for the cheaper upgrade to Production Premium.

It may be something as simple as you have not moved the pivot point to the bottom of the card. Thus when you rotate it at present the `card` will rotate from the middle of the card layer….

AND… if the cards are going to flip like they do on a real ‘dex, you will be precomping them with their anchor points at the center of the ‘dex, not at the bottoms of the cards.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
