Person walking in front of text
Hi, I’m trying to let a person walk in front of a main title. The shot is locked off but there are trees blowing in the background a little bit and a couple walking towards camera down a sidewalk. The title is on the left side and I want the people to be able to walk in front of it blocking out part of the title.
I’ve tried a difference matte and I’ve tried auto-trace.

Key what you can, then rotoscope (hand mask) the rest. You only have to mask out the people where they overlap the text, remember.
Use multiple masks.
For things that don’t change shape, make masks then animate their position.
Set mask keys at points where the shape reaches an extreme point, letting AE interpolate between.Get a coffee, some music, and try to enjoy it. 🙂
BTW, Difference Matte is almost useless due to noise and the prevalence of browns and grays (in both foreground and background) on real-life footage.

Thanks Steve, I was scared that was going to be the answer. It’s not that bad I guess. A few hours of work for a nice title.
