Performance tweaks and XP
I’ve recently ‘downgraded’ my Vista laptop to XP and see that the performance has improved a few hundred per cent. That is, the preview window shows much smoother footage, about 85% normal I’d say. The laptop is pretty basic, three years old, and I know it falls short of the recommendations – I use my 3ghz dual core AMD desktop pc for Vegas mainly, but sometimes this laptop too.
Is there anything else I can do for a bit more smoothness? I thought increasing the RAM used in Preferences from 128 to 256 or 512 mb might help, but I don’t see any change. I don’t expect a miracle but I’d just like to know if there’s anything more I can do. I have used nLite to make tweaked versions of XP, but that seems a bit of a gamble. (Would Windows 2000 work with Sony Vegas 9 and be any smoother? Windows 2000 often works with things it’s not claimed to, or where w2k is described as ‘not supported’.)
Many thanks.
