  • Performance Impact from Importing Comps?

Does anyone know whether it hurts or helps – or has no effect on – After Effects performance if you import a comp from Project A into Project B, as opposed to creating that same comp within Project B to begin with?

It’s important to say that I’m considering a situation where AE would need to frequently access this comp throughout Project B – so it’s not like we can keep the two projects separated for most of our work, and just combine them at the very end before rendering.

We’re trying to find the most efficient way to re-use common movements across different projects and assets.

No difference. Project files themselves are really light.

Is this something that renders slowly? You might have better results pre-rendering elements from Project A to use as footage in Project B.

    That’s great to know.

Pre-rendering probably wouldn’t work since we’ll be adjusting timings and other specifics on the Project A comp after it comes into Project B.

(We make animated explainers, and we don’t want to have to manually add things like eye-blinks in every project.)

    Thanks for responding so quickly!
