Perfect settings/format/parameters for hardware accerated h264 rendering
Hi!
Sometimes when I render using hardware acceleration (h.264, cbr, hardware accel checked, etc.) it’s blazing fast (PC = i9/12 core, rtx2080, 64g ram, windows 10. latest premiere). And sometimes it is slow. It’s definitely a “settings thing.” I tried converting all assets to mp4, mov, turned off effects, etc., but this doesn’t account for the difference in a render taking 11minues, versus 2 hours. What are the optimum settings/formats for GPU accelerated h.264 rendering (@1080)? What don’t I know?

I would first verify that it’s actually staying on Hardware Accelerated. I had this same issue and noticed that if I switched from VBR 1-Pass to VBR 2-Pass it would default back to Software Encoding, but if I left it at 1-Pass it would default back to Hardware Encoding.
I’m not sure why 2-Pass makes a difference (perhaps some of the more intelligent folks here can provide an answer) but if you monitor the Hardware/Software dropdown for each change you make you can see which of your export settings are forcing it to software.
Hopefully it’s as simple as that. If not, hopefully someone else can chime in.

I read on adobe.com that hardware encoding only works with 1 -pass.
