Per second animation rate for an After Effects animation
Hi everyone
I am an amateur animator. I am improving and therefore after seeing some of my samples, a few clients have approached me.
While on one hand, it makes me happy, but on the other hand, since I have not worked as a freelance animator previously, I am in certain confusion about the payment rates.
I received a request to animate for a 4 minute short film, which will have an animation style like this – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBB1-UVCzPo .
I will only need to work on the animation part. The characters, backgrounds will be provided. The animation is simple in the video and mainly depends on the colors and composition and not much on the animation. So it is doable in After Effects.
The time period of the film’s production is around 3 months.
May I receive any help from you guys as to what I should charge for animation per second? I was thinking more around $10 per second. But I don’t want to give a very baseless amount out of the blue. Also, I have no professional knowledge about pricing my value of work. All I can say is this style of animation is well within my grasp.

Think of it in terms of frames, not seconds.
Each frame could take you hours to animate properly.
