OK, I’m sure it is something I’m doing wrong, I just can’t figure out how to put it right.

I edited a wedding video, no problems, everything was fine.

Now I want to create a short showreel of that video for new clients.
At this point, I need to tell you I don’t have the original project for the wedding, just the captured AVI’s.

So, in Premiere Pro CS3, I created a new project, and then imported the AVI’s into it.

Now the fun begins…. PPCS3 just goes on and on and on and on and on, creating ‘peak files’!! I’m hoping it’ll get there eventually, but it is taking a long time to do it.

    What did I do wrong??

OS is Vista Home Premium on a quad core 4gig RAM machine using an external G Raid 2 1TB drive on which the media is stored.

Keep in mind that the peak file creation only accurs in idle. Everytime you touch the timeline it will stop.

Just let the computer sit there for a few minutes and it should do its thing. If on the other hand it seems to do the same file over and over (which I have and other seen once in a blue moon), you may need to move the media cache folder to reset the process.

    OK thanks Vince.

I think i may be the ‘victim’ of the latter, as the same file(s) seem to be getting generated, and this process is taking quite some time, even with me not touching the software.

When you say “move the media cache folder”, to which are you referring (i.e. how ill I identify this), where will I move it to, or do you mean delete it altogether?

    TIA

If it keep regenerating the same peak file, by that I mean you see it going to 100% and it start over again while in idle, then move the “Media Cache Files” folder to a different location (by default at the same location as your Premiere project).

    That should solve the issue.

I’m having the same problem. It’s just occurred recently but every 90 seconds or so on its own, and after every thing I do, it generates a peak file and conforms the same file over and over and over. I’m curious as to where the media cache folder should be moved as well as the results of that action. I’m not entirely new at this process but I’m far from calling myself an expert. I’m not quite sure what conforming means or what the media cache folder contains. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I’m doing a video project for a non profit company and the due date is coming up. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can move it anywhere. Moving it simply tells Premiere to start it all from scratch.

Ok, so, I did that and now the project won’t open anymore. Am I totally screwed? This is what I did: I created a file within my project folder called hidden files. I moved the media cache into that folder. Once I did that Premiere automatically created a new one but then stopped and shut down saying a dramatic error occurred and needed to be shut down. I checked the files in the new media cache folder after restarting my computer against the files in the old one and I’m missing over a hundred files. Now the project won’t open at all. I don’t know what to do. Please help.

It sounds like you have more problems than just the peak files.

What kind of error are you getting. I should have mentioned that it it best to move thing when Premiere is not running.

You next step would be to move your project folder. That means that you will have to relink all your footage and pictures, that could take quite a while, but if something is corrupted it should tell you what. You could also try to open one of your auto-saved files ?

Can I continue to work on my project file in Premier PRo CS3 at the same time as the Peak Files are generated?? How important is it to have all the peak files generated anyway? Should I delete them? My project is unusually large and this takes LOT of time.

    Would appreciate a response!

    Thank You
