PDFs not Vectorized when in Replicator
Posted by Lorenzo Vidali on September 16, 2014 at 2:08 amHi Everyone,
I am using a pdf in motion that scales just fine until I hit the “L” key to create a replicator from it. Then it the individual cells behave as if it they have fixed resolution.
Any ideas?

September 16, 2014 at 2:41 pmUnfortunately, that’s a bug. You’ll have to make a rastered image of the file and use that.

Thanks for your help.

September 17, 2014 at 2:16 amIt’s not a bug it a function of the order of operations. A vector object has to be rasterized in order to be replicated. Same with Emitters.

Well, yes and no. Let’s say that that’s to be expected *technically*, only *practically* it shouldn’t be happening. It should be possible to continuously rasterize in a case like that. And when I showed this to the Motion guys a while back when I came across it myself, they didn’t seem to think that it was right either and wanted to look into it.

September 25, 2014 at 3:13 amWould this work for you? Select the pdf in the media tab and turn off “fixed resolution”. Then for the replicator, change it to 3D.

September 25, 2014 at 3:16 amThat last part “Change the replicator to 3D” was the key!
Now it vectorizes perfectly.
Important note to others, you still need to uncheck “fixed resolution” in the media pane of the inspector.
Thank you!
