With my prior laptop I started to get the Medea FW800 external drive for video storage. At the last minute I discovered my PCMCIA card bus was 16bit and not 32bit and as such, I would not get the benefit of the FW800 speed and through put.
New scenario. I have a new dual core Sony with the pci express 34 slot. There is a new card for the express 34 slot for external FW800 drives. Is there a way to know for sure the bus speed BEFORE I buy the adapter to insure I would benefit from the 800 raid 0? How would I check this? I have Sandra but with out something running in the slot it just shows the slot but no characteristics.
This Sony seems a little peculiar as well it would not mount a drive on the Adaptec PCMCIA card adapter but runs an Orange Micro PCMCIA adapter just fine. I am cautious about the new card for the express 34 being quirky as well. Does anyone here have any experience with any of this stuff?
Thanks in advance for the feed back.
