PC upgrade for better Ae workflow
I am considering upgrading my old computer. Specifically changing CPU and GPU. My biggest problem is timeline scrubbing, slow preview, the program sometimes crashes due to loads of layers and effect in multiple comps or complicated riggs. Sometime the work can take twice the time it should. I do mainly 2D motion graphics, animations, effects, presentations.
I need and advice – should I first go for new CPU or GPU? Or both? These are my current PC components:
CPU – AMD Ryzen 7 C/16 T 3700X
GPU – Asus ROG-STRIX-GTX1660S-06G-GAMING
Motherboard – ASUS TUF B450-PRO GAMING
RAM – 4X KINGSTON DDR4 16 GB
SSD Disk – Samsung SSD 970 EVO PLUS 500GB
SSD Disk – CRUCIAL P1 SSD NVMe M.2 1TB PCIe
Power supply – SEASONIC zdroj FOCUS Plus 550W / SSR-550FX / akt. PFC / 120mr
Case – Fractal Design Focus
I will be super thankful for any advice.

Hey Man! For Hyper Speed you should get a nice 9950x and an Rtx 5090 and 128gb of ram;
This 3 component will literally unlock “Ultra Insinct Mode” in your pc, whatever you’ll give it, it will simply do it almost instantly, forever.
Avoid 4k at all costs and this setup. -
If you mainly do 2D work, your GPU will be used less. Puget Systems has a benchmarking page which shows Macs with no compatible GPUs topped performance for 2D

Not much you can do with old machines. Nvme just for cache and don’t ever use h264 footage is my advice.
Ae needs the fastest single CPU core you can give it. 64gb of ram is fine for 32 threads. The GPU does very little.
Don’t use large source footage
Preview at 100% to cache timeline then Render to pro res then compress in media encoder. Faster and better quality.
Keep system clean.

Don’t store anything on it.
4TB nvme cache empty daily.
I’d just start again. Base any build on Puget advice.
I recently built a portable machine to take with me to studios.
It’s twice as fast my big recent threadripper. Just finished a 30min 16k@60p render on it.

Msi pro matx mobo
Ultra 285k I think this is the main advantage. I undervolted so it didn’t throttle. Test with pugetbench and cinebench
128gb ram 2×64 as 4×32 didn’t work. More ram is always better than faster.

Samsung 990 for storage and projects
Both 4tb
Everyone under estimates how important fast write speeds are.

3 noctua f120 for the cooler

1x a120 IN from the back.
