    every time i try to render out an avi in premiere pro my pc just shuts down without warning. does this sound like a hardware or software issue?

    My first guess would be CPU overheating. Open the case and inspect for non working or clogged fans…clean with compressed air. Leave the case open and try again.

    Weird. Where to do you have the rendered footage?(which HDisks) How many space do you have in your scratch disks?

    As Mike said, it is most likely the CPU overheating.

    Download a copy of speedfan and monitor the temps closely while rendering.

    If that’s the case, try dusting off the inside of the machine first.

    You may need to replace the CPU thermal transfer compound, or have someone do it for you like the guys at Best Buy.

    It’s a fairly simple procedure if you follow the instructions closely.
