PC not recognizing my Apple XDCAM EX clips
Posted by Hugh john Murray on March 11, 2009 at 9:00 pmNot sure if this is a quick fix, but my CGI guy – who works by remote – cannot get his PC to recognize my XDCAM EX 108024p clips from my MAC. I sent him the link to the driver, and he said it installed fine – are we missing something?
Many thanks for your assistance

March 12, 2009 at 1:26 amHi Hugh,
Don’t know much about EX-1 in PC, but I guess you need to import your stuff as MXF instead of QT for working in PC. I don’t know if QT for Windows support the codec.
Rafael(and here some clips for the friends: https://www.vimeo.com/2694745 )

March 12, 2009 at 4:41 pmYou have to export using SONY XDCAM plugin. This will make an MXF that PC can use. I do it all the time going back and forth between FCP and Avid. Sony XDCAM should be one of your export options if you have installed the plugin (it’s available on Sony’s xdcam website)

March 12, 2009 at 5:46 pmTHank you both, Andy and Rafael – I found the Sony XDCAM export option at the bottom of the export options, but it says “current sequence settings are unsupported.” I take it I need to reset my sequence settings – any suggestions as to what I should set them to?
Thanks!

March 12, 2009 at 5:50 pmI’ve never found a setting for xdcam ex only xdcam hd. I just choose the hd setting that matches the setting of my ex sequence. Sequence is xdcam ex 1080p 24 VBR then I set export to xdcam hd 1080p 24 VBR. I can’t see a difference.

March 12, 2009 at 8:09 pmOK, I think I’ve done it. It asked me to set the audio to dual mono (don’t like the sounds of “mono”) in the user preferences, and there is a SONY XDCAM EX setting in FCP sequence settings, but it wouldn’t export because it said the settings did not match. So I changed it to SONY XDCAM HD and it worked – but the odd thing is when I plunked the test clip into the timeline, there was a green line rather at the top – meaning that either the audio or the picture is a realtime render? Usually the clips are two gray lines…just wondering if this happens to you, if all the clips should have green render lines.
Will it export clips or just sequences?
Many thanks for helping me figure this out…

March 12, 2009 at 8:18 pmRight I meant that there isnt a sony xdcam ex setting for export. If you want you can also export your audio separately if you don’t like the sounds of mono. The green line is probably because your sequence setting is different from the clip setting?

March 13, 2009 at 12:14 amSheesh – I FTPed him the MXF and he says that PC doesn’t know what to do with it. Do you convert yours and what to? I guess we should try and use a lossless codec. And then when he returns the file back to me, should I try and covert back to XDCAM codec? Or just bring it in and render the file.
I didn’t think it be so complicated between PC and Mac – I thought we crossed that platform bridge long ago ;-/
