Paths to Mask?
If you paste a mask shape to a position it creates path, can you do the reverse and take a path and turn it into a mask?

Yes. Copy position keyframes, then in a new layer (or same layer, but I’m guessing you want a new layer), Layer>Mask>New Mask (or right click the layer, Mask>New Mask). Then twirl down to the Mask Shape and Paste.

Okay, I got it. The first and the last frame weren’t connected so it wasn’t masking it out.

Those open masks can be tricky.
