  • pasting text into after effects problems

Hey, I am trying to paste some text from word or notepad or wordpad, etc into after effects to use the text as a layer. I use the text tool, but paste is greyed out. I am a regular AE user and have done this before but for some reason can’t do it now. Does anyone know what setting or what else could cause this.

I always just use ctrl-C to copy, and once I’m in text edit mode in AE hit ctrl-V to paste.

BUT – I’ve had problems – it works for awhile, but then when I paste I get the old paste buffer, not what I just copied.

It seems to be related to WORD – when I copy from NOTEPAD it seems to work better.

Could be an AE thing – but its probably more a windows bug, who knows….

Make sure you are using a standard font (Arial Times) for your text and remove all formatting and decorations (underlines, bold, colors etc.). Strangely enough, oftentimes this seriously impairs functionality as this “garbage” pollutes the clipboard data AE expects. Other than that – a simple system restart wil often fix these oddities. It remains a mystery, though.
