  • Pasting clip attributes to master clips

I just filmed a project that is intended to be totally in black and white. That said, I wanted to convert all of the clips to black and white before I started clipping and adding them to the timeline. I wanted to do the paste attributes option so I can do it in one fell swoop and have a consistent filter throughout the film, but it seems that Final Cut will only let me paste attributes to clips in the timeline, and not the master clips in the browser. I don’t care about losing the color in my clips, as long as I can still alter the black and white values. Also, I’m running Final Cut Pro 6.
    Thanks!

If you haven’t started editing yet, desaturate the master clips, nest each one into its own sequence and then use the nested sequences as source clips for your edit.
If you have finished your edit, you can do a ‘find all’ (command-F) in your timeline for the clip name and then paste attributes to the entire selection at once.

Is there a way to convert all of the master clips to black and white with the same filter? A paste attributes command that I can apply to all of the selected master clips instead of the timeline? I don’t want to have to go through each master clip one at a time.

OK, I guess you want to select all the master clips in the Browser and apply the Desaturate filter to all of them at once. As far as I know this is not possible.

    But you can do this:

Put all the master clips into a timeline, ‘select-all’ in timeline, apply the Desaturate filter, then drag all the desaturated clips from the timeline back into a new bin in the browser. Now use these clips in the new bin as your master clips for the edit.
