  • Partition 3tb Internal Raid?

Posted by Peter Tours on February 1, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Just now setting up a new 12 core with Mac Pro Raid Card. I plan to use the 3 x 1tb drives in bays 2, 3 & 4 in a Raid 0 (I back up externally). The question is, with a 3tb Raid 0, should I partition it? Are the pro’s and con’s or just personal preference?

    Thanks

    OS 10.6.6
    4 x 1tb internal drives
    Mac Pro Raid Card
    FCP 7.0.3

    etc

don’t partition it. Just use it RAID 0. Or, if you can get away with it, don’t even RAID it. IF you are doing ProRes422HQ or ProRes422, you can do all your jobs on a single drive, so if you get a failure, you don’t lose the media on all 3 drives.

And forget the horrible Mac Pro RAID card. They all fail, and they drive people nuts. It’s a bad purchase. Want real RAID 5 – get a real raid controller card, not the Apple.
