  • Partile Generator: Freeze the generation process?

    Hi there,

I have wanted to create the effect of rotating the camera around lemonade fizzing in a glass, but as though time has stopped. All the bubbles will therefore be stationary.

I realise I could create lots of 3D spheres and change the size/position/opacity etc etc manually, however when playing with CC Particle World generator I found that when I previewed rotating the camera when in the effects menu, it gave just the effect I wanted. However, it was simply rendering one frame.

Is there a way to stop and freeze a moment in the generation of the particles, enabling me to rotate the particles’ position etc over time without the particles generating?

I hope the post makes sense.

    Many thanks,

Particular would be perfect for this. There is a “Physics Time Factor” that allows user control of the flow of time backward and forward.

    Hi greymachine,

Thank you for the pointer – I have downloaded a demo version of Trapcode Particular and it seems to do the job well.

However, I am unable to buy the full version (so there is a big red cross in the way of the imagery) and am wondering whether there is still another method I could follow using the plug-ins and effects that come with After Effects?

    Do you/does anyone know?

    Thank you though,

The only thing I can think would be to use Dan Ebbert’s expression based particle generator:

Then you could convert the expressions to keyframes and control their flow that way.

I found an indirect way of creating the freeze frame effect with particle world. Simply select in the layer properties the time stretch and increase the overall time. It will create ultra slow motion appearing as if the layer has been frozen. The cool thing about this is that you can still freely manipulate the particles in 3d space.

    Hi there,

Thank you graymachine and ShortBrit for your advice.

I’m trying to master Dan Ebbert’s expression based particle generator as it seems highly useful.

Thank you graymachine for the link.

The Time Stretch tip seems perfect for acheiving the effect of ‘frozen’ bubbles quickly.

What a great find, cheers ShortBrit!

    Thanks again,
