    Hey guys,

this question is a hypothetical one as right now I am out of reach from a computer but I fully intend to do it once I get back so feedback/suggestions would be appreciated. Just trying to get the know-how now so I can get straight into it.

Anyway, it’s probably easier if I explain the scene I want to create:
I want to record some live footage walking through a hallway/alleyway type scene where I will make a turn or two through corners.

With this footage I want to bring it into boujou -track, solve etc and bring in the track data into AE. With particular I will create some rather stationary particles floating in the air like dust. The question I had in mind is that is it possible to link the position of these floating particles to the camera movements tracked in boujou so it appears that they are really in the scene. ie: moving through the dust according to the camera movements.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated, it’s kinda the focal point of my animation 🙂

    Thanks in advance,
    Eugene

I don’t see any issues with this although a lot will depend on the track data that you bring into AE. Other than the camera data, can you also bring in transform data that you can then link the Particular’s emitter or motion path?

What you will need from Particular are to use a light as an Emitter and perhaps another light as a motion path. You may also want to make use of an Expression, specifically, valueAtTime(time+??) to offset the emitter/motion path if all youhave is the camera data.

The valueAtTime(time+??) Expression method will allow you to offset Particular, in time, which will allow you to better manage the appearance of the particles with respect to the camera.

BTW, it’ll be great if you could post the finished product when you’re done with it.

Sure will, provided that this turns out to be a success haha. I’m a little skeptical in my own skills. Also considering how much time I have left I’m not sure whether I have the time to learn what is necessary to implement it how I want to. I’m not so script-savvy either so fingers crossed. Thanks for the advise, hopefully it will point me in the right direction.

    Cheers, Eugene

well fingers crossed but I will do if it turns out to be a success. Im a little doubtful though right now. My knowledge in expressions is very basic, as goes for boujou. Heck, I don’t even have the footage yet. Hopefully I get something to work or I learn a thing or two at least.

    Thanks for the advise, Eugene

Come back when you’ve got the footage and have tried a few thingies. A couple of JPGs and a movie will go a long way towards having others help you solve your puzzle.

    Good Luck

thanks, I’m a uni student in New Zealand and right now I’ve also got an intern project that I’m well behind in (yes, I’m a terrible procrastinator) and I should really focus on my intern as that is one big project whereas the boujou tracking/channel ident assignment makes up a small fraction a paper. However if I do get some nice footage to work with and decide to go all for it, I’ll definitely be asking more of your help 🙂 Thanks for your support.

    Regards, Eugene
