So i am using Trapcode Particular and just to generate some basic particles in a simple composition.

I want to rack my focus on my camera layer, so that when I do so, the focus will shift from one particle to the next, blurring the particles out of focus that are not at the cameras focus distance at a given time.

It sounds simple enough, but I a cannot seem to get it to work. All of the particles in the comp stay in focus throughout the duration of the camera’s focus rack animation.

I must be missing something very simple but I do not know what.

Are there other 3D layers in your composition that are working with the depth of field?

Check your Camera Options settings again.

Also check the ‘Rendering’ section of the Particular effect.

    Yep, those settings were solid.

It ended up being that I was using a type of particle that did not allow depth of field.
