    hi all,

i’m trying to make a crowd using particular.

i’ve got particular using a 200×200 comp of people silouettes.

it’s all set up, however when i rotate my camera, the crowd rotates as if auto-orient is turned on. I can’t figure out how to rotate the camera and NOT have the crowd rotate with it.

    is this possible?

Harry Frank did a tutorial on how to accomplish this. You can see it on his website:

    Dave, thanks for your reply.

What switch are you speaking of?

even if i parent the camera to a 3D Null the people rotate with the Null…

Particular always orients particles to face the active camera, if it didn’t then most particle systems it generated would look very fake when orbiting (i.e. postcards in space).

The way around this is an odd sort of workaround. You’ll need to go into your ‘people pre-comp’ and make your ‘people layer’ a 3D layer, then go back into your main composition and enable collapse transformations on the pre-comp. You’ll also probably need to increase your particle size in particular. With the transformations collapsed Particular will not automatically orient the particles, but will instead mirror whatever orientation the pre-comp has relative to the camera.
