particleView example doesn’t animate
Posted by Leigh Young on August 7, 2012 at 7:10 pmThe particle in the viewing window doesn’t animate. It’s like it’s on pause, which it’s not, and it won’t change when I scroll through search results. Not sure how to fix this.

August 7, 2012 at 7:30 pmProbably an OpenGL issue. Have you updated video drivers lately? Perhaps you should. (and you’re certain it’s not paused?)

August 7, 2012 at 7:59 pmI’m certain it wasn’t paused. The strange this after restarting it a dozen times it started working again.

August 9, 2012 at 2:46 pmI’m not being prompted to update any video drivers.
I have to restart my computer for the search window to animate again. I’ll use it, go onto something else and when I come back to it again, it’s stopped working. The same goes for particleIllusion itself. It will work, I’ll use it, work on something else, and when I come back to it nothing will animated when I press Play. The window is stuck on whatever was there last. The only thing that fixes it is a restart of my computer.

August 9, 2012 at 3:05 pmYou won’t get a prompt to update video drivers. Do you know if you have graphics hardware based on NVIDIA or AMD/ATI? Whichever it is, go directly to the NVIDIA or AMD websites and download the latest driver installers.

August 9, 2012 at 4:49 pmI’m using a Mac with OS 10.6.8. If a driver needed to be updated, it would be included in an update for the OS. I’m all up to date as far as that’s concerned so I can’t figure out what’s happening. It’s random when it works and doesn’t so it’s hard to duplicate what’s going on when it happens.

August 9, 2012 at 4:53 pmAh, right, on Mac it’s a different story.
You’ve hit the spacebar to pause/unpause, and that’s definitely not the problem, right? Make sure you click in the preview window before hitting spacebar.

August 9, 2012 at 5:09 pmPause is definitely not a problem. Something else that’s happening is I’ll start up particleIllusion and everything in the windows will be white until I cover up part of the screen with another app’s window, then everything under that window now appears but still won’t animated or move. Hard to describe, hope that makes sense.

August 9, 2012 at 5:33 pmNext time it happens, try resizing the preview window and see if it starts animating again, or switch into full-screen mode and then back.
