I’m doing some motion graphics with animated text and was wondering if theres anyway to use particles to do the work for me.

What i want to do is have text (single letters) floating away from a trains exhaust like rising smoke.

I’m totally new to the new after effects and have only encountered 3d particle systems in a couple of Co-pilots tutorials.

You can use Particle Playground or buy Particular from Trapcode

You could also use CCFoam. Type your letter in a text layer, hide it, apply foam to a solid. Then under user defined choose the txt layer. Then you can use the letter(s) as a particle. No 3d in Foam though.
