To clarify, I was asking about the video on particles that is masked by the moving dancer. I just kinda need to be pointed in the right direction.

that’s the XParticles 2.5 demo vid. I have it but have not tried to find out how it works, perhaps the x-particles forum is the place to ask. It might also be possible with TP Matterwaves but I don’t know that either really, just guessing
