I’m trying to get some magic-looking particles float up out of a circle drawn in sand, but not from within it. How can the producer qualities be adjusted for this?

With Trapcode Particular, you can create an invisible circle layer, promote it to 3D, position it within the circle on the sand, and use a layer emitter.

    Thanks, Walt.

Is there a way to achieve this with CC Particle World?
Or are my days of seeing how far I can take Particle World before having to purchase Particular up?

Not that I can think of — but I’ve been a Particular user for years, and I can’t remember the last time I used Particle World in production. I’d be happy to be corrected if I’m mistaken.

Particular is incredibly powerful and flexible. Version 2 adds a ton of new features, including support for AE lights, dynamic self-shadowing, reflection maps, and floating point compatibility. Maybe you could try the demo out on your shot?

    Good luck.
