    Hi,
I want to create an animated mass of texture mapped round particles that moves along a path – trailing particles along the path as it moves – sort of like an asteroid.
Been using CC Particle World Effect on an imported Illustrator path (Position), but can’t figure out how to get the trail of particles to align (orient) along the shape of the path to create a precise effect.
Perhaps I’m using the wrong Effect? Or there’s a work-around?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    QB

You can do it using Particular, not sure about CC Particle World.
To use the path from AI, select the path shape, copy it, and paste it onto the position of a Null object. Pick whip Particular’s emitter to the Null to follow the path.

Thanks for the idea – anybody know of a way to achieve this with the plugins/effects that come bundled with AE?
I’m trying to do this on a University computer and it will not allow us to install anything on the HD (aside from the usual budgetary issues;)
    Cheers,

I think this is what you’re searching for:
    https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/3d_stroke_effect/

He is using the standard CC Particle World.

    other Question to Ted:

Is it possible to produce particles from the bottom of the screen and then they fly up, doing some loopings etc.
So its basicly the other way around. The producer stays at the same position all the time while the particles are following a path.

    Any Idea?

Thank you Pawel. This is very useful and I think I can adapt the settings to do what I want. I’m curious to see if your question is answered too…

You can set the gravity in Particular to a negative value and have the particles fly upwards. As far as following a path, you could set up a path for the particles to follow, but I’m not sure how they will behave- will have to play with that.

    Hey Ted,

i know about the negative Gravity. I made it with wind. Works fine.
    Its only the path thing.

I only found the option to set a path for the air / wind. But it`s not realy working like i want to. Maybe i have to try more things out.
