I am trying to make a bloodstream scene like the one in Andrew Kramer’s tutorial using particle world instead of particular. I can get it to look pretty close except for a few things. The main problem is that the particles fade in as they are born and fade out as they die. I can’t get them to stay opaque throughout the length of the scene. This causes semi transparent particles to pass by the camera. Another issue is that sometimes particles that are further away form the camera appear in front of particles that are closer causing a surreal effect. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix these problems without buying a 300 dollar plugin? Thanks for any and all help!

[Trevan Whiting] “The main problem is that the particles fade in as they are born and fade out as they die. I can’t get them to stay opaque throughout the length of the scene. “

this can be over ridden in the effect ‘options’. within the effect window, click options at the top of the window (just to the right of reset). from there click opacity map and set it to constant.

[Trevan Whiting] “Another issue is that sometimes particles that are further away form the camera appear in front of particles that are closer causing a surreal effect.”

there is something wrong the 3d calculations in this plugin… the only thing i can think of would be to try fewer particles to avoid particle overlap and 2 or 3 particle systems designed to be in separate 3d space on separate layers. then you can layer them in the comp to maintain the correct 3d appearance.

the separate layers should still behave correctly with a 3d comp camera (unless the camera moves around to the other side on the particle systems…)

Also, I’ve noticed that CC Particle World or After Effects (I don’t know which) will add some transparency to particles if you set their Motion Blur switch on for the layer. At least it does this in some instances when I’ve used it.
