    Hi Folks.

I have just learned, from reading the forums here, that my beloved piece of software, Particle Illusions, is gone! Last night I was working on a project and I needed to use the software to add some effects. The software wouldn’t launch for me. It seems to keep losing its license under Windows 10. So I came here to see if there were any updates and when I saw the forums here my heart sunk.

I love this software and would be totally lost without it! It is so sad to learn that the technology behind it is dated and the user base is so small that it’s not being updated any more. I am going to be totally lost once this piece of software stops working…!!!

My concern right now is the online activation. If those servers are closed then the software is totally useless!! To Alan and the other creators behind it, please release one last patch to remove the online activation before those servers are gone… …or please update the software or release a new version! I saw Alan say in one of his posts here that with Particle Illusions being 2D only it was a killer for the software. I think this piece of software is truly magical and superb and it deserves a full date, in 3D! I think the market would lap it up!!

Anyway, shocked and saddened to see this gone… I hope the software will continue to work for many years to come but once it does stop working my creative workflow is going to take a serious hit with it :(. I don’t suppose there is any similar software out there???

From a loyal customer and huge fan of the software,
    Paul.

This whole ordeal pains me physically, especially since I had my sights set on PI for 5+ years but was never able to obtain it. I feel like I missed the boat
Still, holding on to a wing and a prayer that an open source version will be available in the future, and I hope it’ll be sooner rather than later. I’ve seen other people talk about RigzSoft as an alternative, but I’m not sure if it can replace it entirely

Do not forget that Boris FX has now acquired GenArts so I’m not sure if and when anything will be updated. I really really hope they sell this program to someone who will continue to update this stand-alone product. It is very sad to see this excellent product slowly die

It is one of the worst decisions to stop the program, it is like when apple bought SHAKE…. YIKES that was a nightmare in the middle of a huge production…..
Worst day at that time of my career, I knew immediately what was coming. First only on MAC and then gone……
My PI opens but does not really work, no support from my M6000 with my new setup or vice versa.
So it good by to my old friend PI you were awesome!
That makes two industry let downs.
    PI and SHAKE. RIP.

I was always a big fan of the ‘Phoenix’ myth. Hope you are serious….
